2013 City of Quincy Arts Awards Winners Honored

Winners of the annual City of Quincy Arts Awards were honored on Jan 10 at the noon meeting of the Exchange Club at Stoney Creek Inn in Quincy. Each winner will be receiving original artwork created by students in Blaine Barnes’s art classes at Quincy Senior High School. The students who are awarding their framed artwork are Katlyn Grott, Bethany Long, Mary Jane Meirose and Kyle Warning.

Preliminary Lineups Announced For Blues and Blackhawks Alumni Game Benefiting Tornado Victims

The Skate Strong exhibition hockey game, featuring St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks alumni, will take place in Peoria on January 15. The game is being organized to raise funds for victims of the tornadoes that devastated the Midwest on November 17. While the final lineups are still being put together, a preliminary list of players attending is now being reported.

Meteor Sightings Throughout Upper Midwest

Reports are in from throughout the upper Midwest of a meteor easily visible in the northern sky shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses report seeing the meteor in several locations around the Hannibal-Quincy area. There were also reports along the Iowa-Missouri border, in central Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, according to the American Meteor society.

Blues and Blackhawks Alumni Exhibition Game to Benefit Illinois Tornado Victims

Several Illinois communities were devastated by a series of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that ripped through the region on November 17. Hundreds sustained injuries during the tornadoes, at least eight people lost their lives, and the property damage has been catastrophic. The tornadoes led Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to declare disaster areas in seven counties. On January 15, an exhibition hockey game - featuring former St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks players - will raise funds for the victims of November's tornadoes.
